North Austin Neighborhoods
Just to the North of Austin you will find the luscious green tree-lined roads that wind around the rolling hills with well established neighborhoods nestled between them. Some of the most desirable areas such as Scofield Ridge, North Burnet, Wells Branch and Jollyville are full of big, picturesque homes. There are some charming, idyllic parks with mature oak trees shading the beautiful hiking trails and clear, rocky creeks. Mid-century homes sit in the midst of the serene landscape, many of them featuring large trees with intertwining branches in their yards as well as sizeable floor plans and generous lots. Near the Parmer and Tech Ridge area, newly constructed traditional brick town homes and contemporary condos are available and abundant.
North Austin is located near the major highways of Mopac and I-35 which significantly reduces commute time for residents. The region encompasses an array of fairly new apartments and condos that attract a large number of families making it a popular place to settle in order to stay close to the city center but still enjoy all the perks of a quiet suburban neighborhood.
North Austin Lifestyle
North Austin is reputed as the home of huge tech company offices such as Apple, Oracle, Dell, GM and IBM. The city is renowned for its cutting-edge technological development and these large corporations employ many thousands of the residents in the area creating a strong intellectual culture among the North Austin population. There are quite a few successful startups that originated from this area and that spirit of entrepreneurship is still very much alive so it is not uncommon to see aspiring young techies.
Shopping is a wholesome experience for residents of North Austin since the major shopping centers like the Arboretum, Domain, and Lakeline Mall are a short drive away. Groceries at the Texas favorite chain H-E-B, healthy Whole Foods and HMart for all things Asian are nearby making cooking at home that much easier. Numerous movie theaters, excellent fine dining and authentic Austin breweries can be found in the area making for amazing dates and memories to last a lifetime.
In North Austin, greenbelts and parks are everywhere mainly due to the incredible, protected oak trees some of which have been there for more than a century. Some notable parks include Walnut Creek, Riata Neighborhood Park, Katherine Fleischer Park, Balcones District Park, Mills Pond Recreation Area, and Rattan Creek. Outdoor green spaces are plentiful as well as gyms, covered picnic areas, and children’s playgrounds available year round for convenient entertainment and exercise needs.
North Austin Schools
Austin Independent School District (AISD) serves the North Austin area and has about 84,500 students currently enrolled. The North AISD includes 13 elementary schools, 6 middle schools, and 4 high schools. AISD will automatically accept students that live geographically within the district that they serve and determine whether a student living outside the district may be eligible to attend due to special circumstances, specific talents or programs only provided by certain schools.
There are some private and religious schools available as well that give parents the option of outstanding alternate education for their kids such as North Austin Montessori, Brentwood Christian School, and the Magellan International School.
